It is one of the greatest Takiya Mawlawiya (shelter), one of the seven (Cairo, Jerusalem, Damascus, Aleppo, Bosnia and Cyprus) that are found outside Turkey. Eight Centuries ago, Jalal Al-Din Al-Roumi from the city of Konya founded the Mawlawiya/Soufi principle which spread later on in all the Ottoman Empire. It was built during that time by the representative of the Ottoman Empire “Samsunji Ali” as a center for religion and education. It kept its status in the city’s religious and Sufism history until the middle of the twentieth century.
